বৃহস্পতিবার দুপুরে রাজধানীর বাংলাদেশ পোস্ট বক্স (জিপিও) কার্যালয়ে বাংলাদেশে ডাক বিভাগের পোস্ট ই-কমার্স সার্ভিসের শুভ উদ্বোধন করেন ডাক ও টেলিযোগাযোগ প্রতিমন্ত্রী তারানা তালিম।

তারানা হালিম বলেন, ঢাকা শহরের এগারোটি স্থানে পোস্ট ই-কমার্স সার্ভিস দেওয়া হবে। জিপিও ঢাকা, শান্তিনগর, গুলশান, বনানী, মোহাম্মাদপুর, মিরপুর, নিউমার্কেট, উত্তরা এবং তেজগাঁও পয়েন্টে এ সার্ভিস দেওয়া হবে।

তারানা আরো বলেন, এ সার্ভিসের মাধ্যমে অনলাইনে কেনাবেচায় গ্রাহকরা একদিকে যেমন কম খরচে উন্নত সেবা পাবে, অন্যদিকে পোস্ট অফিসে সার্ভিসের ধরনও বদলে যাবে। ফলে ই-কমার্স সার্ভিস হবে পোস্ট অফিসের আয়ের অন্যতম উৎস।একদিন অ্যামাজান ও আলিবাবার চেয়ে এ সার্ভিস এগিয়ে যাবে বলেও আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করেন প্রতিমন্ত্রী।
